Today the district put the final touches on its parents drop-off and pick-up loop. The permanent parking barriers will provide a safe environment for our families without the worry of crossing across traffic because a car is parked on the inside. Please be careful as you navigate in the loop and we have left plenty of space for a parked vehicle on the right and flowing traffic on the left. If there is a rock or a pole, please do not park in those areas.

Good afternoon, We wanted to take this opportunity to let our community members aware of a social media post that has been circulating throughout New York state yesterday and apparently across some other parts of the country today. Here is a copy of the language of the post appearing in the SnapChat app: "I needed a new account to make this, me and my friends have gotten bullied for too long and we can't take it no more. October 26th, Tuesday at [times vary], we will be shooting up [schools vary]. We plan on shooting 10 administrators and 50-70 kids...." Unfortunately, a GST school was identified yesterday in one of the hoax posts and have been dealing with it over the past 24 hours. At this time, Canisteo-Greenwood has not been identified in any post, but we wanted you to be aware of the post and are monitoring it closely. Please find below a copy of a message that the Corning Painted-Post Superintendent released today, as well as a Steuben County Sheriff Press Release. CPP Superintendent Message to Community – "I am following up on our communication from yesterday regarding the social media trend with a potential “threat”. I know that this particular social media post circulating in our community, State and nation is causing much stress and fear. These posts are circulating all over NYS and today even in Alabama. We have worked closely with local law enforcement to investigate these posts and they have worked with law enforcement agencies across the State. Please read their Press Releases carefully. I have also included links to our local t.v. station stories." PRESS RELEASE Corning PD Yesterday, October 26, 2021, the Corning Police Department was made aware of the social media “threat” circulating on a popular platform across the nation and worked with the Corning Painted Post School District, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, and NY State Police during this investigation. At this time, the Corning Police Department has not identified any credible threats to the Corning Painted Post School District, or any other school districts in our area. The Corning Police Department has learned that the social media threats have shown up in multiple schools in other areas of New York State, and the rest of the nation, using very similar language. The Corning Police Department will continue to monitor trends of this nature throughout the U.S and New York, and we will routinely be in contact with members of the FBI - Corning Office and the New York State Police as well as our other law enforcement partners to keep apprised of any investigative developments. We will continue to work with and communicate with the Corning Painted Post School District to strive to keep our students and community safe. If there are any updates that directly impact the Canisteo-Greenwood Central School District, we will inform our community immediately. Yours in service, Tom

Good morning, This week the district will be installing permanent "no parking" barriers to assist us in providing a safe drop-off and pick-up zone at the elementary school. The idea behind the "no parking" zones is to eliminate individuals from crossing potential traffic in the loop, and to allow easier 2-way traffic at the mouth of the driveway. Although we may not have enough of the new barriers to replace ALL the cones that are out front, we are asking that you please adhere to the "no parking" areas (barriers and pavement markings) during student drop off and pick up. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Since our last report on Tuesday, the district has reported 3 cases (1 HS teacher and 2 HS students) to the county. The 3 cases yielded 4 close contacts for quarantine. All the affected families have been contacted. We wish a speedy recovery to all. As we continue to see our numbers decline, our covid communication will become limited. If you are interested in the most up-to-date information regarding CG cases, you can visit: https://schoolcovidreportcard.health.ny.gov/#/home or our website and this link is on the district's front page. Have a great weekend! Tom

Good afternoon. Since our last report on October 4th, the district has reported 10 new cases (7 HS students, 2 Elem, 1 HS teacher). Contact tracing has been completed and the affected 12 close contacts have been contacted for quarantine. A number of today's cases are direct contacts to someone inside their home and have been in quarantine yielding our smaller quarantine numbers. Tuesday - Thursday of last week, we did not have any cases to report so today's numbers are from Friday and today.

Since our report on Thursday of last week, the district has submitted 3 new high school student cases and 1 high school teacher case to the county. The contact tracing has been completed which yielded 8 student quarantines. All of the affected families for quarantine have been contacted. We wish all who are covid positive a healthy and speedy recovery. Many of our cases continue to be from contact with a positive household/family member. We ask that parents continue to monitor for any symptoms and keep your children home if you have any doubt.

Parents/Community Members, Late Sunday night the Canisteo-Greenwood Athletic Department was notified that their opponent for this week’s Varsity Football game is unable to play due to quarantines. Our Superintendent and Athletic Director worked all Monday exploring opportunities for our team to play. By the end of the day Monday we could not find a team in Section V, Section VI, or Section IV willing to travel to Canisteo-Greenwood to play a game. We were approached by a team in Section V who was willing to play us but only if they hosted on Friday the 1st. The Superintendent, Athletic Director, and coaches all feel that not playing a game this week would be devastating for our kids as we have already lost a game earlier in the season due to our opponent canceling. We all feel it is best to play even if it means traveling this Friday. We as a district understand the disappointment of not having a home football game during Homecoming Week but we will make the most of this opportunity. We encourage everyone to travel to Pembroke this Friday (7:00pm kickoff) to support our players and coaches. Thank you for your support, Canisteo-Greenwood CSD

CG is reporting 2 new cases today (a HS student and an elementary staff member). From the district's contact tracing, 45 students have been placed in quarantine. We wish the student and staff member a quick and healthy recovery. At this time, we would like to report our cases and quarantines to date: We have seen 30 cases since the beginning of the school year (6 staff and 24 students). From our quarantine investigations, the district has reported 98 students in total to the county that met the requirements. We will continue to report cases as we get them. CG is reporting 1 positive case today of a HS staff member. Due to the timing of the symptoms and the staff member not being in school, no contact tracing was required. The late positive reported in yesterday's numbers but the investigation was still ongoing yielded 15 students being quarantined due to being within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes collectively throughout the day.

Good afternoon, I just wanted to send out an update regarding the recent cases here at CG. I know many are asking “what is going on”? That is a question that has ringing through my head at the end of last week and all weekend. Here are a few things that I feel would be important to bring to light. I am sure there are more, but these are the main ones. 1. Last fall, we did not have many outside activities that the students were participating in. We were coming into the school year after being off since. People were excited to be returning to in-person learning even though there were going to be guidelines (masking, distancing, etc.) Because of “higher risk” sports being cancelled, most kids went home and did not hang out with each other. Some did, but we still didn’t know too much about what covid was going to look like getting our kids back together in school. This year, the students (thankfully) can participate in the things they love to do with no outside restrictions. 2. Last fall, the district did not have the capability of doing its own testing. We didn’t for the entire year for that matter. The access to on-the-spot testing has assisted us in catching more covid cases. We are only testing staff and students that are symptomatic and are not doing any “screen testing”. Our positive tests have only come from individuals displaying symptoms and if the parents have asked to test the siblings. We feel it is the right thing to do when a parent requests to have the siblings tested. a. Please, if your child is symptomatic, we ask that you keep them home. You may call the school to schedule a rapid test, or you can take them to your primary health care physician. Every positive test, except one, the individuals had clear symptoms. 3. The delta variant is more contagious than the original strand. Many of our cases are coming from households where if one person gets covid, most in the home do as well. I asked if they were seeing this across the county and they said “yes”. These are just a few outliers that I have been contemplating and I am not trying to make excuses. Things are different than they were last school year that need to be a part of our conversations and thinking. Rest assured; the district is doing everything we can to protect all who enter our doors. We are abiding by all the regulations (acknowledging that they are stricter) and go above and beyond when we can. Just an example, last Friday Mrs. Brownell spent hours distancing in the cafeteria so that our students are now eating at 6 feet rather than the recommended 3 feet. Another example is changing our air turnover rate from 4 times per hour to 8 times per hour in the classrooms. We have also continued to use our thermal cameras which tagged a feverish student last week that ended up positive after being tested. When asking “what is going on” at the school, please know that everything we know to do is being done to stop any potential spread and we are relying on the experts to provide us the proper mitigation strategies. The frustrating part is not really knowing whether there was a transmission in school or outside of the school system. In many cases, we may never know that answer but what I do know is that school is the only place right now that has mitigation strategies mandated by the NYS Department of Health. Our students and staff are more protected here than anywhere else. I will continue to assess our situation and keep our student’s and staff’s health in the forefront of my decisions. If there is ever a time you have any questions or concerns, I ask that you reach out to me to have that conversation. Yours in service, Tom

Since last Friday, the district is reporting 6 positive student cases (2 Elem and 4 HS). All but one of the cases have been contact traced and the affected individuals for quarantine have been contacted (3). Once the last case is investigated, we will be reaching out to the families for quarantine. We wish a speed and healthy recovery to these students.
